Description
Helps to reinforce the tuba parts in a band (bass line) and is not offered at all TSA schools. Uses similar basic skills but plays a very different style and role to regular piano playing.
Things to consider
- Students should have at least 1-2 years of piano lessons prior to joining band on keyboard bass (new beginners are not accepted into the band program on keyboard) and we encourage you to continue learning with an external specialist piano tutor in addition to band rehearsals and lessons
- Suits students who have excellent rhythm, enjoy repetition and patterns and enjoy the social and group music making aspects of playing in the band
- Will need a piano or keyboard at home to practise on
- Most schools limit the number of keyboard bass players in the band – check with your school’s band director or TSA office before enrolling
