During lockdown many students are missing the opportunity to apply the skills learned during lessons to a larger group with their friends. So at TSA we have decided to ‘put the band back together’. We are introducing an optional extra session each week where students can rehearse (and hopefully record) their songs together as a combined band. There is no additional cost for these sessions and students can attend as many (or as few) as they like each week.
Sessions will run for 45min each week, are offered at a variety of times and different ability levels.
‘Training’ Level: students will need at least 6 months experience to participate, will cover simple songs using the first 6-7 notes and simple rhythms and is perfect for new beginner students and senior students looking for a bit of fun with minimal effort
‘Intermediate’ Level: students will need at least 12-18 months experience to participate, will cover songs using notes learned in the first 90 songs of their Accent On Achievement book and is perfect for students who are happy to put in a little more practise and preparation
‘Advanced’ Level: students will need to have completed the first 100+ songs in their Accent On Achievement book, will cover more challenging songs with complicated rhythms and techniques and is perfect for students who want to be stretched and who have the time to put in regular practise

How To Record Yourself
The ultimate goal of this program is to learn our songs well enough that students can record themselves and submit so we can combine together and create an ‘online band recording’ to share. Recording yourself at home is extremely simple but there are a couple of important points you need to know to make sure we can include your recording.
IMPORTANT POINTS:
- Audio recordings only (no video please)
- Students must record themselves playing at the right speed (see below for details)
- Submit your recordings via email – steve@teachingservices.com.au
How to Record Yourself At Home
- Learn your part well enough to play along with the audio track we have been using in band (audio tracks available from the music download pages – links above)
- You will need to be listening to this audio track through headphones and play along with it during the recording so you play your part at the right speed
- Use ‘Voice Memo‘ app on iPhone (Android phones have a similar free app such as Samsung Voice Recorder) – no fancy microphone required
- Find a quiet room in the house – best room is one with plenty of soft surfaces (bed/doona/carpet/curtains)
- Don’t point the instrument directly at the phone, angle it away for the best sound (about 1.5m away)
- Make sure when you record that we can only hear your instrument (and we cannot hear the audio track you are playing along with through your headphones)
- Listen back to your recording before submitting to make sure you are happy with it
To submit your recording email the audio file to steve@teachingservices.com.au. Your Voice Memo / Voice Recorder app should have a ‘share’ button which will allow you to send the file as an email directly from within the app.
Don’t forget to include your child’s:
- Name
- School
- Instrument
- Name of the Song
