Description
Smallest and highest pitched brass instrument in the band. Makes quite a strong sound and often plays the melody (main tune).
Things to consider
- Requires good aural skills and suits students who are good singers or have been in choir
- A strong sense of rhythm and ability to work as a team are ideal characteristics
- Making a sound requires a strong embouchure (lip muscles) – this can be developed with regular practise
- A practise mute can be purchased making it almost completely silent for home practise
